How to set your vision for an ideal happy, blissful and fulfilling life?
What is your vision for an ideal life?
How to set goals for your life?
What do you see yourself doing in the future?
What are your goals for life, business or career?
Are you happy with the way things are going in your life?
Do you have any clear indication of where you are heading right now?
Do you have any ambitions for the future?
Are you content with your current income?
Are you happy, healthy and have good relations with family, friends, and colleagues?
What would be the ideal scenario you would like to reach let say in a month, 3 months, 6 months or 10 year’s time?
Do you know what your life purpose is?
What would you like to be remembered for after you leave this world?
I hear you saying … why so many questions woman, you may ask?
Well, it is simple…
If you don’t know what you want then you will never know where you are heading.
You simply cannot succeed in life guessing your way around.
It is important to ask yourself the right questions so you have ‘clarity’ of what you really want to achieve in life.
You need to have a precise plan in place which will set a roadmap for your entire life to achieve the kind of success you desire, whether you are an employee, a student, a parent, a spouse, an entrepreneur or a business owner running an online/offline business.
It is the same for all people including you and me.
By the very fact that you are reading this article, I assume you have an interest in this matter and are genuinely concerned about the state of your affairs and would like to do something about it.
If that is the case then I hope this article will help towards giving you some direction on how you can turn things around for yourself.
By learning …
- How to set your vision
- How to have a positive mindset
- How to define the steps to achieve your dreams and goals for a happier fulfilling future
- How to define your purpose and the actions to transform your life
Firth thing first, you need to define what is your vision and goals are.
I will try to explain the difference between the two points as follow:
Vision – Defined as seeing the Bigger Picture of where you want to go or what you want to achieve
Goal – Defined as a kind of Milestone which will help you get closer to your vision step by step
There is, however, an important distinction between Vision and Goals.
- Goals must be specific and measurable
- Goals must be serious but achievable
- Goals must have a deadline
#1: Set Your Vision
Perhaps your main vision is to travel around the world for the whole year.
As it happens, you may currently be working full time or not, and have no much money to spare to cover for the travelling nor for taking care of your responsibilities at home.
Perhaps you have a family to look after and bills to pay.
For your vision to come true you need both money and time, two luxuries that are hard to come by for regular folks like you and me.
Here we have defined what is your ‘Why’ or in other words your ‘Vision’ of what you would like to achieve.
Secondly, we need to define the actions you will need to take to accomplish your Vision.
These action steps are what we call goal settings or setting goals.
#2: Set Your Goals
It is said that a large number of people go through life without thinking about setting up goals, this idea rarely enters their mind.
Using our vision example of travelling around the world, the following are the kind of actions you would take to set ‘Goals‘ for your self to allow you to accomplish your vision of travelling for a year:
Cost Calculation
Start by calculating what you will need for your travel for the whole year including:
- Travel costs – (flights, ships, trains, etc)
- Food and Accommodation costs
- Medical Insurance Costs
- Travel Money
Followed by calculating the costs you need to maintain yours/your family’s monthly expenses.
Multiply these by 12. You can add 3 months to cover any future unexpected events that might come your way.
A little caution will not hurt you.
Make a Decision
Find out whether you will be able to take a year off from your job as a career break or unpaid leave.
If the answer is no, ask yourself if you are prepared to make the gigantic decision of leaving your job and would not mind looking for other ways to make money when you come back from your travel such as:
- Getting another job
- Entering into a business venture or
- Do something that will make you money for your survival
Take a Decisive Action
Having established that you can afford to take time off work by hook or crook, you now need to figure out how you are going to come up with the money for a year’s travel.
Among the things you can consider doing for the next 6 months could include:
- Working at Weekends
- Saving by reducing your weekly and monthly outgoings
- Cutting down on grocery/food bill
- Ditching the car and use public transport
- Having cooked meals at home, less take away and eating out
- Selling things you no longer use or need at home. Put them on eBay and make a quick buck.
- Stopping using cable TV
- In your spare time becoming a freelancer – put your skills to good use and make few bucks/bobs
- And so on …
#3: Come Out of Your Comfort Zone
Every now and then you may encounter real obstacles and your will to continue with your quest will fade.
When this happens, you need to remind yourself of your vision as to why you are trying to do this in the first place.
It is very easy to give up and say I cannot do this, is never going to happen.
Well if you do that then you would have a done a de-service to yourself.
You will never know what you can accomplish unless you try.
Tell yourself that quitting is not an option.
Travelling around the world is an opportunity of a lifetime and not many people can do it for the same reasons as yours including due to lack of time, money, health and having un-avoidable responsibilities.
Becoming an online entrepreneur and running your own internet business is no different.
Both require you to have a ‘vision‘ and setting laser targeted goals to complete the necessary steps which will allow you to achieve your business and life’s accomplishments such as being able to:
- Work on your passion or venture whenever you want to
- Replace your income
- Spend quality time with loved ones
- Be financially comfortable
- Travel around the world
- Dedicate your life to a good cause
- Live life on your own terms
- Have the freedom to determine your future and destiny
Remember that nothing in your life will change unless you change.
To succeed in anything, you must learn to:
- Define exactly what is it you want to do, be or have in your life
- Take decisive consistent actions to help achieve your goals
- Accept the challenges as they represent themselves to you
- Be willing to make some sacrifices along the way
- Eliminate or change things that no longer serve you
#4: Commit To The Plan, Persevere And Be Patient
Stick to the plan, commit and persevere especially when you encounter life’s challenges and difficulties.
Without a shadow of a doubt, you will be tested and find yourself being thrown at the deep end.
Life has a way of surprising us when we least expect it.
If it happens, just know it is ok.
Take it in your stride and don’t become overwhelmed about it.
Sacrifice today so you can have a better tomorrow.
#5: Have a Positive Mindset
You have to allow your mind to tune in into positive thoughts, as possessing the right mindset will ensure success takes place.
To have a healthy mental state, you mustn’t let doubts, fear and negative thoughts overshadow your mind and overall thinking.
The key is to be in control of the situation and don’t let negativity take over your life and determine your future.
Remember you are in the driving seat, you decide the direction of where your life is heading and not the other way around.
A positive attitude will keep your focus and give you the drive and determination to succeed against all odds.
#6: Define Your Life Purpose
Lastly but not least, to have a meaningful happier contented life, you must define what your life purpose is.
Your life purpose can be anything you want it to be.
It could be a life of meaningful existence and positive direction or
A life of destruction and waste.
The choice is simply … yours!
However, as a responsible entrepreneur, a professional person, a student, an apprentice/intern, a school leaver, a graduate, a homemaker, a retiree or whatever occupation you may or may not hold…
It is my hope that you have higher aspirations for your self, family, friends and humanity at large.
In other words, whatever good you wish for your self you wish it for others.
If that is the case then it becomes easy to define your purpose based on what you would like to do, in order to ‘serve’ and ‘help’ other people in a meaningful manner.
I have previously discussed this topic in detail in my other article called the 4 outstanding rewarding ways to build and leave a lasting legacy.

There are many ups and downs when you run a business. You will have days when you are upbeat, full of joy and things are moving steadily and days when you are doubtful and petrified. You will find that your sanity and resolve will be tested for sure. Hence why it is important to remind each other of our vision, goals and what we aspire to achieve in life and business. We have to stick it through till the end no matters what challenges are facing us. I tend to write from my own personal experience on what I have been through and still going through. Hi Rabia,
Thanks for such an inspiring post! I have heard this phrase being said more recently by entrepreneurs ‘What is your WHY’. This had me puzzled. What is my Why? Now I understand. I have now set up a vision board in align with the goals I have set.
I immerse myself in positive thinking and read books that inspire and encourage. Currently, I’m reading ‘Think and Grow Rich’ and I’ve recently read Rich Dad, Poor Dad by Robert Kiyosaki.
I am now driven to become successful. No more excuses – Just hard work, perseverance and determination.
Thanks for the timely reminder.
Welcome Jacqueline and thank you for taking your valuable time to read and comment on my post.
I totally agree with you about the WHY question. Without the whys we really don’t have clarity of what we want to achieve and where we are heading. When we identify what our WHY is we are in a much better position to plan ahead and set our selves achievable goals that will deliver our main vision.
I have also read ‘Think and Grow Rich” by Napolean Hill. It is such a brilliant book, I personally feel every single entrepreneur should read it. I have heard of Rich Dad, Poor Dad by Robert Kiyosaki but have not had the privilege to read it yet.
He is famously known for the cash flow quadrant. I have heard numerous speakers mentioning his concept in many of the conferences I attended in the past. He talks about people being categorised in four different sections that you are either an employee, self-employee, business-owner/entrepreneur or an investor.
The investor is the ideal position to be where you don’t trade your time for money like employee or self-employee do.
The investor makes money for him/her without doing any work other than investing their money whilst the business owner delegates tasks to other people and work on his/her business and not inside it, meaning they don’t get too consumed by the mundane tasks of running a business such as customer service, accounting, billing, etc. They let others do the work so they can focus on the bigger vision of the company and plan for growth to take place in an effective way.
You raised an important point about Motivation. You see, to run a successful business or to achieve anything in life you need to be motivated constantly.
You have to keep your mind positive especially when failure and negative thoughts come in to play and yes failures and disasters do happen, they are part of life. It is how we react to them that matters at the end of the day.
In the famous words of Warren Buffet. “When something happens you have three choices. You can let it define you. Let it destroy you or you can let it strengthen you”
Hi Rabia! I can not tell you how much this article touched my soul. It was as if you were reading my mind. I have been working on a website for about 3.5 months now, and it seems like I never have enough time in the day. I have my Vision, but I had no idea that I would become so consumed by my Vision. It is almost all I think about all day and night. Thank you so much for this inspirational essay!
Hey Colleen
Thank you for stopping by. I am very pleased to hear that this article has benefited you in some ways. It gives me encouragement to do more and to be assured that I am doing the right thing.
This is my motivation for writing the blog in the first place. It is precisely to help and empower entrepreneurs like you and I to reach out and learn from one another.
With regards to your vision don’t get too hanged up about it. You know exactly what you want to achieve, is just the planning ahead you need to worry about. Set your self daily or weekly goals that will contribute towards achieving your bigger goals/vision. You should be flexible on this. Finish one task then move on to the next one. Review, improve and correct where and when needed. If you become too consumed or obsessed by it then it will be difficult to do other things. Remember the most important asset you have beside your health and family is time. We loose time very quickly, once is gone we can’t get it back.
Take care..
Very good points. Many times we are busy being busy instead of setting targeted goals and then mapping out a way to get there. I know a guy who actually writes down his goal each day and it seems to work for him because he is always moving forward rapidly towards achieving those goals.
I like your views on getting out of your comfort zone. I think if we set goals while staying in our comfort zones then the goals are not lofty enough. Our goals should give us the chills and get us out of our comfort zone.
Thanks for sharing.
Hey Nate
Thank you for stopping by. I smiled when I read your comments cause it reminds me of myself and the reason why I wrote this post in the first place.
Writing down goals is the easiest bit, taking steps to implement the actions is the hardest. I literally have to do this to my self every day, meaning get my self out comfort zone to achieve the things I desire. It is hard and painful but I remind my self of the outcome. Once you’ve done it you forget the pain and move on to the next thing. All great things in life are not easy, you often have to sacrifice something to get good results.
Hi Rabia,
I agree to this. There are only two things we need to be doing in this life, knowing what you want, and pursuing its achievement. Most people fail at the very first step, very easy to get lost and just go with the flow. These kinds of articles remind us of how to take control of our lives.
Great post. Keep it up!
King Kong’s Girl
Many thanks for your encouragement King Kong’s Girl. What a cool name ! Yes, taking control of our lives is a must.
If we don’t take responsibility for our actions then we only have to blame ourselves when things don’t go the way we expect them. No one is going to do anything for us, in life we get what we are not what we want.
Good topic and some good information. I think the bottom line here is “If you are afraid to fail, you will never succeed!”
Hey Curtis,
Spot on ! I could not agree more. Failure is part of life. You will never know your true potential unless you try things out, whether they work or don’t it does not matter.
What it’s important is that you take action….
